New Gear, save my back!
After shooting the first episode of Shaq Life, I needed some help. We did an 80min roll off shoulder shooting Shaq giving a teen with big feet, some big shoes. 80min shooting is long, but shooting up at Shaq seems eternal. Got back to the office an immediately purchased an ErgoRig, a vest-like device you wear to take the weight of the camera off your shoulder, onto your hips. Now long rolls off shoulder are easier.
Next up we have the Teradek ServPro. This is a really cool device that allows mobile video monitoring. If you have a phone, you can monitor the shot in real time. This device works wonders if the director is in another room and needs to see the shot. We used these on an HGTV show, Flip or Flop Atlanta and beamed straight to an iPad. Adds more weight to the camera, but that’s what the ErgoRig is for.
