In the Field with Snapchat
Shooting vertical? “ew” I thought as I built out my rig to shoot handheld all day for Snapchat series Planet re:wild. We went to a conservatory that works on raising and reintroducing the Gopher Tortoise. This Tortoise makes these deep, long burrows that the use for protection. The burrows are also used by much of the wildlife for protection from predators and fires.
We started the day on a plot of land WAYYYY out. Got my truck nice and dirty. I was able to streamline my camera package for optimal vertical shooting. I used the fx3 with the Sony 28-135. I plugged on the audio to the top handle. The camera has touch-to-focus, so I would just tap the screen with my nose to focus where I wanted it to. Pretty funny stuff, but if it works, is it really that stupid?
After we wandered the wilderness, we headed to the lab where they grown the babies from their eggs to young adults. They munched on some lunch while we were there and proceeded to be very cute. Overall I actually think shooting vertical was better for this project - people standing around tortoises on the ground.
